NATURAL HAIR BEAUTY
This project was lead by Kai Burton, an SLA senior. Her initial idea was to record young black women about their natural hair and create a podcast. It was then suggested that along with recording the women, they could also be videotaped and photographed. Each interview occurred in the same room, and the same setup was used every time, two lights, two camera, two mics, and a black background. Each interview lasted about 10 minutes and was followed by a 10 to 15 minute photoshoot where each women expressed themselves and their beautiful natural hair. While taking the pictures, it was important to capture the unique beauty of each person, making sure that no picture resembled another.
Senior Yearbook Pages
This project was was very specific to what each student wanted. Many seniors needed a photo shoot to accomplish their visions for their senior page. One photo shoot took place inside where there was a two light setup and a black backdrop. For the inside photo shoot, it was important to have each person pose in a specific way to prevent unwanted shadows and to also mimic the pictures taken for popular movie 'Mean Girls', which is what the students took inspiration from for their page. The other two shoots were taken outside, both in different locations per request of the students. Although the focus was primarily on the people, it was also important to catch the essence and beauty of the outdoors.
